How gas prices have changed in New York in the last week

New York, October 17, 2025

Gas prices across New York have declined slightly over the past week, giving some relief to drivers as autumn settles in. According to data from state energy reports, the statewide average for regular unleaded gasoline dropped from about 316 cents per gallon to 307 cents per gallon, marking a decrease of nearly one percent.

The most significant decline was recorded in downstate areas, where prices fell from roughly 310 cents to 297 cents per gallon. Upstate regions remained somewhat higher but still saw a minor drop compared to previous weeks. The downward trend reflects broader national patterns tied to easing crude oil costs and reduced travel demand after the summer season.

Energy analysts say the recent dip is driven by a combination of factors including lower global oil prices, steady refinery output, and a seasonal reduction in fuel consumption. The New York Harbor spot price for conventional gasoline also edged lower to just under $1.92 per gallon, signaling continued pressure on retail prices.

Compared to the same period last year, the state’s average price is about 0.8 percent lower, offering a modest year-on-year improvement. However, experts caution that geopolitical tensions and global supply fluctuations could still cause volatility heading into the winter months.

For now, New York motorists are seeing slight relief at the pump, with prices expected to remain relatively stable if current market conditions persist.
